This week we’re continuing our SideDoor superstar series where we highlight some of the amazing things you all have accomplished utilizing the platform.
Last week we introduced North Bend, Washington based designer, Milissa Morgan-Ching, founder of the pacific northwest design firm, Salt + Pine. If you missed that conversation, you can see it on the blog here.
Today we’ll be taking a closer look at a project in which Milissa utilized SideDoor in a big way. Let’s get to the good stuff!
Designer: Milissa Morgan-Ching
Photographer: Janine Soltman
Location: North Bend, WA
Tell us about the client, their project, and how you utilized SideDoor along the way:
This client is special to me, and our story is so funny. We actually didn't meet first—our kids did!
My son was in kindergarten the year prior and at our school, they run this program called “book buddies” where entering kindergarteners get paired with a fourth grader to come and visit with them in their classroom and read to the younger kids. Our sons were paired together for that program—but she had reached out to me without knowing about that.
At one point, she had sent me something on Instagram and my son was sitting with me and saw it, and he’s like, “That's my book, buddy!” And I was like, “What!?” So I texted her and I was like, “You're not gonna believe this…” and she's like, “Oh my gosh, you're kidding me!” So we have this really special connection—it’s so funny how the universe makes people collide.
So, her house is amazing—she's got this really beautiful home that was recently renovated and it was one of those situations where now she needed to furnish it. We put together a collection on SideDoor, and in her case, I actually let her do the purchase process. I gave her the link, and she went in and checked out.
I also wanted her to benefit from the relationship with Side Door, so I was able to give her a private discount code for her collection, which is amazing, and then she just ordered everything up. She is actually right down the street from me, so as items arrived, I would just pop over and we’d work together to place things.
I'm telling you, I live in a pretty small community, and relationships are everything here, right? I love my clients, and I tell them, if we don't become friends at the end of your project, I probably did something wrong! My husband just laughs. He's like, “You constantly acquire new friends.” But what we do is so intimate. I care so deeply and I love so much about what I do that it's hard not to just naturally arrive at that place at some juncture during the design process.
Next week we’ll be talking with Milissa again specifically about how she’s found success with the platform—finances, processes, all that good stuff! So be sure to keep an eye out for that.
And of course, if you want to follow along with Milissa’s design work, you can find her website here, as well as her social media profiles on Instagram, and Facebook.
